Super Mario Bros is a classic 2D platformer game where players navigate the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Toadstool from Bowser. Each leap is so fascinating, with a basic control scheme that wows with its velocity and creative level design.
You start with a small, fragile body, but once you find the first question mark box, the world opens up completely:
Super Mushroom: Transforms Mario into an adult, allowing you to smash bricks and withstand one hit before dying.
Fire Flower: Transforms you into Fire Mario – a true superhero. Now you can throw fireballs (up to two on the screen) to destroy enemies from a distance. Maintaining your Fire Mario form until the end of World 8 is always a challenging test.
Starman: The background music changes, and Mario becomes sparkling and invincible for a few seconds. This is the most exhilarating "sweep" moment in the game, especially when you charge into a horde of monsters to get extra lives.

Don't want to go through the 8 worlds sequentially? Look for the Warp Zones. Most famously at the end of World 1-2, instead of going down the sewer normally, run as fast as you can across the rooftops and disappear through the brick wall. You'll arrive at a room with 3 pipes, taking you straight to World 2, 3, or 4.
In the list of the most "magical" secrets in gaming history, Minus World always tops the list.
In World 1-2, if you cleverly "slip" through the wall (requiring pixel-perfect technique), you'll fall into a world called "World -1".
And here's the twist: It's an underwater world, and there's no escape. You swim and swim and then return to the starting point. The developers (Nintendo) later admitted this was a glitch, but since it didn't cause the game to crash, Miyamoto humorously considered it a special "feature".
When you reach the final steps of World 3-1, look for the turtle (Koopa) coming down. Jump away from the first one, then jump right onto the second one at the foot of the wall. If accurate, the turtle's shell will bounce back and forth between you and the steps, continuously picking up lives until you... get bored.
Super Mario Bros remains one of the most playable platform games thanks to its smooth controls, clever level design, and interesting secrets that make each time you conquer Mushroom Kingdom feel unique.
